Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Dr. h.c. mult. Ulrich Rüdiger

Ulrich Rüdiger has held the position of rector of RWTH Aachen University since 2018. Born in Schöningen, a small town in Lower Saxony, Rüdiger studied Physics at RWTH, where he also wrote his doctoral thesis and habilitation. He was subsequently appointed professor for experimental physics at the University of Konstanz in 2002.

Between 2009 and 2018, Rüdiger was Rector of the University of Konstanz. Among his overseas posts, Rüdiger was a post-doctoral fellow at New York University and at the Cornell Nanofabrication Facility (CNF) of Cornell University, US. He has served on a number of committees, and was Vice-President for Research and Young Researchers in the Executive Board of the German Rectors’ Conference (2014-2018). Rüdiger is married and has four children.
