Award

The Aachen Engineering Award is an honor jointly awarded by RWTH Aachen and the City of Aachen. The award will be annually presented to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the positive perception and/or further development of engineering with his or her life’s work. Award recipients are expected to have left a mark in their engineering field, be it through innovation, technological developments, the development of innovative business models, successful leadership of major technology companies, or other technical activities of great societal relevance.

A selection criterion that is as equally important as the technical achievements is the award winner’s function as a role model for the younger generation, particularly students, as the Aachen Engineering Award is awarded one day prior to the RWTH Graduation Celebration, for which 5,000 participants are expected to attend and which is the largest event of its kind in Germany. Award winner Berthold Leibinger has the honor of talking about his life’s work to graduates in the key-note speech.

Award winners are selected by an  Advisory Board. The Aachen Engineering Award is based on a Charta of both RWTH Aachen and the City of Aachen.
